"Who better to entrust a vile weapon to than someone who abhors the very thought of violence?"

Deenah's quiet life as an apprentice healer in the small village of Brae's Creek has come to an end. She can never go back. After fleeing through the wilds for days, she finds herself on the outskirts of Tablat, a frontier town full of thieves, murderers, and halfbreeds. Exhausted and hungry, she has no choice but to enter.

But she is not alone. And that thought terrifies her more than anything.

FARRIER Keepers of Kwellevonne Series Book 2 eBook J K Swift

Farrier is basically a long chapter in the serial novel Keepers of Kwellevonne. It continues the story of the healer's apprentice Deenah as she travels, seeking a sword capable of destroying the cursed sword, Kwellevonne. In this installment, Deenah's horse has come up lame, and she spends an interlude in a rough frontier town called Tablat. The other main character in this installment is Marcus the farrier.

Few, if any, grammatical mistakes or spelling errors. Good characterization though it feels a bit rushed. There is one point where Deenah finds herself in the midst of unsavoury characters, for example, but it seems very, very shallowly developed. Just a bit more elaboration would have really given us a sense of her growing unease. It's a question of show, not tell, that is just missed. Another encounter, with a priest of the as-yet-unnamed religion could also use some expanding. Finally, the interlude with Marcus, the farrier, was another missed opportunity to provide more information and really round out a scene. For example, there is a woman who is, I assume, the owner of the public baths that are heated by Marcus' forge. She comes into the scene having cleaned Deenah's travel-stained clothing, but we are not really introduced to her. Simple details, like her name, or a description, or a bit of dialogue would have changed this from a "tell" moment to a "show" moment.

This installment was not as long as the first. I liked it, though, so I give it 4 stars. Unfortunately, this *just* came out a few days ago, so I guess I have to wait a long time for part three, Warder :-D .

I hope you don't think I am being nitpicky with this review. I truly am enjoying the story of Deenah and her quest. I am eager to learn more of her backstory, which is being revealed in drips and drabs as we progress. I hope Ms. Swift takes my comments as intended which is to provide my honest feedback about areas where a "good" story could turn into a "great" story.

Overall:
plot 5/5
flow 5/5
characterizations/rising action 3/5

Recommended. No cursing or blatant bad behavior, though unsavoury motives are strongly hinted at when she first arrives in town.

FARRIER Keepers of Kwellevonne Series Book 2 eBook J K Swift Reviews

waste of pixels, now wants a longer review
tried to make it short and to the point - some twit has decided that he/she knows more than I do about what I think of this piece of garbage
This was a great read and I wish it was longer! I can't wait for the sequels to come out.
I really liked this series, can not wait for the next book to come out. I would recommend this series to anyone to read.
Story was too short. Development of characters was absent. Not up to the authors usual style. Just saying my 2 cents worth
I read so many books trying to get a different spin, this one was great, I loved every minute of it and couldn't put it down. I almost made myself late for work trying to get to the next chapter.
This is a well written story, exciting and entertaining, however, I can't see paying $2.99 for 45 pages of story. There are just as many good books out there for only .99 that are as good.
Short story really means small parts of one story that yo overpay for to read the thing. I would take a guess that this would like be a $25 in total cost for an average sized paperback.

Note this is not my first book by Swift but it will be my last. Not a bad author, decent actually, but someone should have suggested not to market short chunks of one decent story this way.
